Defense: Estonian Prime Minister, ‘spending 5% of GDP in 2026, Putin has not changed his goals’

20 Marzo 2025

(Adnkronos) – “A few days ago the Estonian government decided that next year our level of defense spending will be at least 5% of GDP. We know very well what Russia represents. We know that Vladimir Putin has not changed his goals. And we also know that everything that is happening in Ukraine could happen across Europe and affect European and NATO countries. This is why we are investing in defense and the European Commission’s proposals on budget rules are absolutely in line with this”. This was stated by Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal entering the European Council meeting in Brussels. Setting up centralized programs for grants and other instruments, particularly for the eastern flank, would be “a significant help in ensuring its security,” he adds.
