Serbia, tomorrow Rutte will meet Vucic, after accusations of using ‘sonic weapons’ on the crowd

18 Marzo 2025

(Adnkronos) – Tomorrow, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic at his residence in Brussels. Last weekend, mass protests against the government and corruption took place in Belgrade, with thousands of people – especially students – taking part, recalling the terrible incident on November 1st at the Novi Sad railway station, where 14 people were killed by the collapse of a newly built roof.

The official toll of the demonstrations was 56 injured and 22 arrested, but what sparked debate were the indiscretions, by some opposition media, according to which the police used “sonic weapons” to disperse the crowd. The Serbian Security Information Agency categorically denied the news, specifying that no agent used such a device that day, nor were any anomalous sounds or side effects attributable to a weapon of this type recorded. The agency also stated that it does not possess any device of this kind.
