(Adnkronos) – Dozens of Israeli protest groups have announced plans to hold a large demonstration in Jerusalem on Wednesday against the possible dismissal of Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and have called on their fellow citizens to participate. After a meeting this morning in Tel Aviv, the leaders of the associations announced the demonstration, which will take place in front of government offices, when ministers will meet to decide on Bar’s removal. The event will begin at 8 a.m. with a long procession from Motza, outside Jerusalem.
After the vote on Bar, the demonstrators will continue their march towards Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in central Jerusalem, where they are preparing to face a prolonged stay, with tents. “The dismissal of the head of the Shin Bet while he is investigating the prime minister’s collaborators is not only illegitimate but also illegal. Therefore, we will join all the protest organizations and tens of thousands of citizens to protest against” this decision, commented Eran Schwartz, CEO of the protest group Hofshi B’Artzenu (Free in our country, quoted by the Times of Israel.
