(Adnkronos) – Nato members could come to Ukraine’s aid under the principle of collective defence enshrined in Article 5 of the military alliance’s founding charter, Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani stated on Tuesday.
“Article 5, which says that in the event of aggression against a Nato country, the other countries intervene to defend it, could also be applied to Ukraine – a country that is unlikely to be a Nato member any time soon,” Tajani said.
“But Ukraine’s security would be guaranteed by this treaty,” he added.
Tajani was speaking at Let EXPO – Italy’ main transport, logistics and business services trade fair taking place in Verona.
