(Adnkronos) – The ‘Two Sessions’ (‘Lianghui’), the political event of the year for China, have concluded. Since last Tuesday, the event has seen thousands of delegates gathered in Beijing for the annual sessions of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the National People’s Congress. At the close of the annual work of the Assembly, Zhao Leji, third in the ‘hierarchy’ of the Chinese Communist Party and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Assembly, was not present, highlights the South China Morning Post.
According to the newspaper, Zhao was last seen in public last Saturday and it is the first time in decades that all members of the Politburo Standing Committee have not attended the closing of the work. The absence would be due to health reasons, “a respiratory infection”.
