(Adnkronos) – Europe and the West must remain united and Europe, which “has a common vision” and key role to play in Ukraine’s post-war security and reconstruction, cannot be excluded from peace talks, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Wednesday.
“Italy has always worked for peace and we all expect that there will soon be negotiations in which, and I repeat, Ukraine and Europe will have to participate,” Tajani told an event in Milan aimed at supporting businesses’ involvement in Ukraine’s post-war rebuilding and renewal.
Tajani made this point in talks with US secretary of state Marco Rubio last month, he said.
“Italy has a strong message of unity for Europe and the Western camp. The West cannot and must not be divided and Europe has a vital role to play,” Tajani went on.
“First and foremost it must be us Europeans who are united, who have a common vision and who guarantee security once the war is over,” Tajani said.
“Otherwise all the positive efforts we are making to rebuild Ukraine risk being thwarted by a new war that we do not want to happen ever again,” he warned.
