(Adnkronos) – Italy’s government has donated 4.5 million euros of critical humanitarian assistance to Syria including for its health and water infrastructure, food supply chains and support for the population’s most vulnerable, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The initiative follows a humanitarian airlift of medicines and medical supplies that left the United Nations logistic base in Brindisi, southern Italy at the end of January and which is currently being distributed, the statement said.
The 4.5 million euros of emergency aid for Syria’s population was announced by foreign minister Antonio Tajani during his visit to Damascus on 10 January, the statement said.
