Canada responds to Trump, ‘25% duties on US goods’

4 Marzo 2025

(Adnkronos) – Canada responds to Donald Trump and will introduce 25% duties on imports from the United States starting today. “After a 30-day pause, the US Administration has decided to proceed with 25% duties on Canadian exports and 10% on energy resources,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement released in recent hours. “There is no justification for these actions.”

“Canada will not allow this unjustified decision to go unanswered,” he added, announcing that “if the US duties come into effect, Canada will respond from midnight with 25% tariffs on 155 billion dollars of US goods, starting immediately with duties on goods worth 30 billion dollars and tariffs on the remaining 125 billion” within “21 days”. Measures that, he pointed out, “will remain in force until the measures decided by the Trump Administration are withdrawn”.
