Tomorrow Trump speaks to Congress, drop in popularity in the polls

3 Marzo 2025

(Adnkronos) – On the eve of his first official speech to Congress since his return to the White House, Donald Trump is seeing a sharp drop in popularity in the polls. According to a CNN poll, 52% of Americans now disapprove of the president’s performance in his first month and a half in office, compared to 48% who approve.

The poll, completed before Trump’s very harsh clash with Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday in the Oval Office, confirms the trend of polls that have recorded a progressive erosion of the popularity with which Trump began his second term. According to the FiveThirtyEight poll average, on January 24, 49.7% of Americans approved of the newly inaugurated president, compared to 41.5% who disapproved. But a month later, on February 27, his popularity had dropped to 47.7%, against a 47% unpopularity rate.

Since Trump has just returned to the White House, tomorrow night’s will not technically be a State of the Union address, the traditional speech with which each year, except for the first in office, the president informs Congress, and the nation, on the government program implemented and presents plans for the future. As Speaker Mike Johnson wrote in the letter inviting Trump in January, the president will tomorrow “share his America First vision for our legislative future.”
