(Adnkronos) – Christian Stocker was sworn in as the new Austrian Chancellor, leading a coalition government between the centre-right People’s Party (Ovp), the Social Democrats of the Spo and the Liberals of Neos. A three-party government, the first since the late 1940s, took office after five months of political stalemate following the elections of 29 September 2024 and the victory of the far right.
“Good things come to those who wait,” joked Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen during Stocker’s swearing-in ceremony, according to Austrian media reports.
