(Adnkronos) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that it will resume the polio vaccination campaign in Gaza on Saturday. In a note, the WHO underlines that “the current environmental conditions in Gaza, including overcrowding in shelters and the serious damage to water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure, which facilitate fecal-oral transmission, create ideal conditions for the further spread of poliovirus”.
“The extensive population movements following the current ceasefire are likely to exacerbate the spread of poliovirus infection”, added the WHO, stating that the goal is to vaccinate about 500,000 children living in Gaza.
