Italy-Israel: ‘Intense’ ties and friendship

19 Febbraio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Italy and Israel enjoy “excellent”, “intense” and “friendly” relations, president Sergio Mattarella told his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog during their meeting at the Quirinal Palace in Rome on Wednesday.

Herzog’s visit to Rome – the second in a matter of months – was “an honour” and “a testimony to the excellent relations that exist between Israel and Italy, also attested to by the frequency of our meetings,” Mattarella stated.

Mattarella also recalled foreign minister and deputy premier Antonio Tajani’s frequent missions to Israel in recent months, which demonstrate “the intensity of our relationship and our friendship,” he said.

“It is a pleasure to have you here, to be able to dialogue with you and to exchange views with great openness and friendship and with deep and cooperative understanding,” Mattarella said.

Writing on X after his talks with Mattarella, Herzog thanked him “for his and Italy’s great friendship and solidarity with the Israeli people – especially through this difficult war (in Gaza against militant group Hamas).”
