Greece: Italy congratulates Tasoulas on election as president

(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani on Wednesday congratulated Greece’s former parliament speaker Konstantinos Tasoulas on his election as president by its lawmakers in a fourth and final round of voting. 

“Congratulations to Konstantinos Tasoulas on his election as President of Greece,” Tajani wrote on X (formerly Twitter). 

“Italy and Greece are united by historic bonds of friendship. We are ready to further strengthen our relations and work for stability and growth in the Mediterranean,” the tweet continued. 

Tasoulas will on 13 March succeed Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Greece’s first female president, who took office on 13 March 2020.
