(Adnkronos) – At least 20 people were injured in a fire at a Carnival costume factory in Rio de Janeiro, local health authorities said.

Television images show people being rescued from windows as flames engulfed the facility in Rio’s Ramos neighborhood. The state-run Getulio Vargas Hospital said 10 people – seven women and three men – are in serious condition from smoke inhalation and burns to their airways. The Rio health department said five hospitals are treating the injured.

The clothing company produced costumes for at least three Rio de Janeiro ‘samba schools’, which will parade during the Carnival festivities from February 28 to March 3.
