(Adnkronos) – Negotiations to form a government coalition between the Freedom Party (FPOe) and the conservative Austrian People’s Party (OeVP) have failed. Fpoe chairman Herbert Kickl resigned from office, announcing his decision in a letter to Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, also released through a press release. “Despite numerous concessions, the Oevp was not willing to compromise on decisive issues”, reads the letter, which reiterates the accusation that the popular party wanted to talk about positions first and only then negotiate the content. “For this reason, today, February 12, 2025, I am resigning from the mandate to form a government. I do not take this step without regret”.
