10 Febbraio 2025

(Adnkronos) – More than 100 people were trapped in a thermal resort in Fukushima, in northeastern Japan, after a snow slide blocked the entrance to several accommodation facilities. Local authorities reported this.

A first landslide occurred around 4 am local time (9 pm Italian time) in the district of Tsuchiyu Onsen, in a mountainous area southwest of the city of Fukushima. The snow retreated around 10:20 am local time and no one was trapped, but a second avalanche hit the road at noon blocking access, state news agency Kyodo News reported. Authorities estimated the number of people trapped by the avalanche at over 100, considering that about 160 people were staying or working in one of the two hotels in the complex. Fukushima is one of many areas in Japan hit by heavy snowfall since last week.
