(Adnkronos) – Bootleg liquor has claimed victims in Indonesia. Authorities have confirmed that at least nine people have died after drinking adulterated alcohol during a party in Cianjur, in the province of West Java. Three other people are hospitalized, police said.
According to the Jakarta Globe, the people involved are all from the town of Pademangan and are between the ages of 29 and 55. They are believed to have produced the killer liquor themselves, mixing other drinks with alcohol purchased on the Internet. According to medical sources, some people died in hospital, others at home, before they could even receive treatment. In Indonesia, taxes drive up the price of alcohol and this would be the origin of homemade drinks in a cheaper way.
