(Adnkronos) – Ecuador’s leftist presidential candidate, Luisa Gonzalez, said the first-round election result was a “statistical tie” that will send the two candidates to a runoff.
Addressing euphoric supporters in Quito, Gonzalez, of the Revolución Ciudadana party, celebrated the “victory” for the country, after having done better than expected against the incumbent president Daniel Noboa. With nearly 90 percent of the votes counted, Noboa obtained about 44.6 percent compared to 43.8 for González.
