(Adnkronos) – Today is the day of truth for the appointments of Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy, which proved to be the most at risk among those of the new Trump administration during the ratification hearing. This morning (US time) the Finance Committee will vote to confirm the appointment of the environmental lawyer as health minister. His no-vax and conspiracy theories on other health issues have been the subject of harsh attacks from Democrats and have also raised concerns among Republicans, who are also not enthusiastic about the fact that the former Democratic presidential candidate, who later became independent and finally an ally of Trump, is pro-choice.
In the early afternoon, the Finance Committee will vote on Gabbard’s appointment as head of National Intelligence. Gabbard, also a former Democrat, ran in the 2020 primaries against Joe Biden and later left the party, moving closer to Trump. Her appointment has raised controversy and doubts because of her positions considered pro-Russian on the war in Ukraine and because in 2017, when she was a Democratic congresswoman, she went to Damascus to meet Bashar Assad.
Republicans are also concerned about her criticism of the law authorizing wiretapping for security reasons, so much so that after the hearing the conservative Wall Street Journal explicitly asked senators to reject her appointment.
