(Adnkronos) – At least 30 bodies recovered following the crash between an American Airlines plane and a military helicopter. A law enforcement source told CBS, adding that “investigators are focusing on why the helicopter was flying in that location and at that altitude at the time.”
As the search for bodies and possible survivors continued overnight, the US broadcaster wrote, human remains and debris were being washed ashore on the Virginia side of the Potomac River, adding that the plane broke into multiple pieces and is located at a depth of 1.5-2.5 meters.
A dive team recovered what appears to be one of the black boxes. It was unclear whether it was the cockpit voice recorder or the one that stores aircraft performance data. Divers have accessed the plane’s cabin. Among the items recovered, there are also bags. The helicopter is upside down but appears to be mostly intact.
