(Adnkronos) – Fincantieri on Wednesday held the naming ceremony for two Indonesian navy vessels which will help stabilise the Indo-Pacific and protect Indonesia and its interests, underlining bilateral cooperation’s key role in the defence sector, the shipbuilder said in a statement.

The vessels, which were sold to the Indonesian Navy, were given new names – KRI BRAWIJAYA-320 and KRI PRABU SILIWANGI-321 – and will be delivered this year, said the statement.

The naming ceremony took place at Fincantieri’s yard in La Spezia and was attended by Biagio Mazzotta, President of Fincantieri, Dario Deste, General Manager of Fincantieri’s Military Ships Division, Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, and Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, Sub-Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, the statement said.

The supply contract “represents an important development in the strategic partnership between Fincantieri and the Indonesian defence ministry, the statement underlined.

The two Multipurpose Combat Ship/PPAs are highly flexible ship types with the ability to perform multiple tasks ranging from those of frontline combatant vessels to patrol vessels with sea rescue capabilities, as well as civil defence operations, according to the statement.

The vessels were sold to the Indonesian Navy as part of a contract signed by the Financantieri Group in 2024 for a value of approximately 1.18 billion euros, said the statement.

The two MPCS were built at Fincantieri’s integrated shipyard in Riva Trigoso-Muggiano, the statement noted.
