China, ‘we will accept forced repatriations of our citizens if verified’

29 Gennaio 2025

(Adnkronos) – The Chinese government has expressed its willingness to accept the forced repatriation of Chinese migrants from the United States, which could take place after the entry into force of Donald Trump’s new immigration policy.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press conference that Beijing “firmly opposes all forms of illegal migration as a matter of principle” and indicated that the authorities “are cooperating pragmatically with immigration agencies in countries such as the United States to achieve results”. “As for possible removals, China firmly believes that verification must be done before repatriation. We will accept Chinese citizens who have been verified as coming from mainland China,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also stressed that the dispute between the United States and Colombia is a bilateral matter between the two countries and therefore does not concern China. “We hope that in the end they will be able to handle the matter appropriately”, she said in relation to the dispute, which has escalated to the point of leading Trump to announce tariffs against Colombia for not having accepted forced repatriations.
