(Adnkronos) – New fire in the hills and mountains of northern Los Angeles County, where about 31,000 residents have been evacuated and firefighters are busy trying to put out the flames. As CNN reports, the fire broke out near the suburb of Castaic and hit both Los Angeles and Ventura counties. No damage to structures has been reported at this time, Los Angeles County Fire Department Chief Anthony Marrone said in a news conference. About 31,000 residents in the area are under evacuation orders, while evacuation warnings have been issued for another 23,000, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna.
“Over 4,000 firefighters are engaged in managing the incident,” Marrone said, noting the “robust” air and ground response to the fire. “The situation is evolving and the fire remains difficult to contain,” he added. Current weather conditions are more favorable than they were two weeks ago, with calmer winds allowing fire helicopters to make water drops throughout the night, Los Angeles County Fire Captain Sheila Kelliher explained to CNN.
