Germany: Merz, ‘there will be a fundamental change to asylum law’

23 Gennaio 2025

(Adnkronos) – The CDU candidate for chancellor in the German elections, Friedrich Merz, anticipates “a fundamental change” to asylum law following the new knife attack, which yesterday left two dead in Bavaria, including a two-year-old child, and for which which an Afghan refugee was arrested. Speaking to the press in Berlin, exactly one month before the early vote, Merz said that, once in government, he will introduce “a fundamental change to the law on entry, asylum and residence, lasting controls” at the borders with neighboring countries and “the blocking of any attempt at illegal immigration”.
