(Adnkronos) – The goal in the conflict-wracked Middle East must be the creation of a Palestinian state that coexists peacefully with and in mutual recognition of Israel – a tough process that will take “years” to achieve according to Italy.
“The goal must be to mend Palestine, to have a Palestinian state that recognises Israel and vice versa,” foreign minister Antonio Tajani said late on Monday.
“It will be a difficult undertaking and a matter of years, but woe betide anyone who gives up,” Tajani went on.
Tajani was speaking from the ‘Agenda for Peace 2025: Europe’s Role and the Challenges of the Jubilee of Hope” event in Rome.
“We need to work for the unity of Palestine, to heal Gaza and the West Bank… through an Arab-led international mission…to allow Palestinians to live under different conditions,” Tajani said.
And peace is the prerequisite for all this,” Tajani underlined
