Assault on the Capitol, Trump pardons about 1,500 defendants

(Adnkronos) – US President Donald Trump has pardoned about 1,500 defendants for the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol. It is “a total, complete and unconditional pardon to all other individuals convicted of crimes related to events that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021,” Trump said, also referring to those who they had attacked law enforcement. ”It’s an important matter,’ commented Trump from the Oval Office. 

Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, who is serving a 22-year prison sentence in Louisiana for seditious conspiracy, is also about to be released. His attorney, Nayib Hassan, told NBC News. It is “an outrageous insult to our justice system” and to the law enforcement officers who protected the Capitol that day, commented Nancy Pelosi.
