Trump to sign up to 100 executive orders, even in front of crowds of supporters

20 Gennaio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Immediately after being sworn in as president, Donald Trump will sign over 50 executive orders today, but he himself has said that there will be “almost a hundred”. According to US media reports today, Trump will sign these orders practically throughout the day, some in the Capitol Rotunda where the swearing-in ceremony was moved due to the cold snap, some in front of thousands of supporters gathered at the Capital One Arena for the rally that will replace the traditional parade. And finally some in the more traditional location of the White House.

Among the executive orders is the one with which Trump will declare a national emergency on the US-Mexico border which, as he himself anticipated during last night’s speech, “will end the invasion of our borders and send home those who are here illegally.”

There will then be several orders to dismantle Biden administration policies, particularly on the environment, such as the one to cut funding for the fight against climate change included in the Inflation Reduction Act, a move that would test the extent of presidential powers since it is aimed at suspending, with an executive order, funds already allocated by Congress. There will then be orders to cancel measures that limit drilling and the granting of licenses for gas, oil and mining activities. As well as to order the stop of investments in renewable energy.

As for the threatened measure against what Trump and his allies call the ‘deep state’, that is, the bureaucracy and federal officials who allegedly hampered his first term, the new president is expected to reintroduce the measure adopted in his first term to change the definition of thousands of civil servant positions in order to be able to entrust them to political appointees committed to implementing his agenda.

Stephen Miller, Trump’s top new White House adviser who in the first administration was the architect of the most controversial anti-migrant measures, illustrated the measures to Republican congressional leaders in a conference call yesterday, starting with the launch of the broad operation against migrants, which was a major campaign promise.

He went on to explain that the declaration of national emergency will allow the use of Pentagon funds for the operation, as had been done during the first administration for the construction of the Wall. In addition, Trump will designate several drug cartels as terrorist organizations and reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” measure, which during his first term required asylum seekers to await the outcome of their applications in Mexico.

“A few hours after I take office, I will sign dozens of executive orders, almost 100 to be exact, which I will describe in my speech tomorrow,” Trump said at one of the pre-inauguration receptions last night, “with a stroke of a pen he will revoke dozens of extreme and destructive executive orders from the Biden administration that will be null and void by this time tomorrow.” It is expected, CNN writes today, that there will be legal challenges to many of these executive orders.
