Tajani in visit to Berlin

(Adnkronos) – Foreign minister Antonio Tajani was set to travel to Berlin on Friday for talks with leaders with partners from the European People’s party to which Tajani’s conservative Forza Italia party belongs. 

While in Berlin, Tajani was set to hold talks with the Germany’s CDU leader Friedrich Merz and Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg, the foreign ministry said in a statement.  

Tajani was also slated to take part in a working session entitled “The state of the European economy: making the EU more competitive”. 

Later, Tajani was due to attend an event organised by the Italian Embassy to showcase Italian industrial and technological excellence – International Green Week, a major annual trade fair promoting the agri-food sector.  

With bilateral trade worth 164 billions euros in 2023, Germany remains Italy’s top trading partner, according to the statement. 

Tajani was scheduled to meet business community representatives n Berlin as well as stakeholders from the economic, academic, and research sectors, said the statement. 

Germany is Italy’s primary market for agri-food exports, which topped 10 billion euros in 2023. Germany is also Italy’s leading supplier of agri-food products, with imports valued at nearly 8 billion euros in 2023, statement concluded.
