(Adnkronos) – During 2025, the European Commission will provide humanitarian support to Syrians, both within Syria and in neighboring countries, for 235 million euros. The EU executive announces it in a statement, highlighting the ongoing commitment to strengthen the provision of humanitarian aid following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
The assistance measures envisaged by the aid package include food, medical supplies, housing solutions, access to drinking water and education, measures of protection from violence and exploitation, and money transfers.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality Hadja Lahbib traveled to Damascus to reaffirm the European commitment to providing assistance to civilians. This is the first visit by an EU commissioner since the collapse of the regime. Lahbib will meet with representatives of the transitional government, as well as EU partners and Syrian civil society organizations to discuss the most urgent humanitarian challenges and needs, the EU executive explains in a statement. She will then travel to Jordan for a parallel visit.
