Agreement, 1,700 Palestinian detainees will be released for 33 hostages

17 Gennaio 2025

(Adnkronos) – There are 1,700 Palestinian prisoners who should be released from Israeli jails in the first phase of the agreement with Hamas for the release of 33 hostages, starting Sunday. The Times of Israel writes it, which has viewed a copy of the agreement. In detail, explains the newspaper, these are “700 terrorists, of whom 250-300 are serving life sentences, a thousand citizens of Gaza captured since October 8 during the fighting in the Strip and 47 prisoners arrested again after the agreement for the release of Corporal Gilad Shalit of 2011”.

A note from the Prisons Service states that the Israeli authorities, not the Red Cross, will be responsible for the first part of the transport of prisoners. The goal is to ensure that “terrorists do not deviate from strict safety guidelines and refrain from any expression of joy within Israeli territory”.
