(Adnkronos) – Italian Americans continue to make a key contribution to the United States’ social and economic development, foreign undersecretary Giorgio Silli said after wrapping up a two-day visit to Florida, where he met local community and business representatives.
“The government follows with great interest and supports these representative bodies of our community abroad,” said Silli after his trip on Monday and Tuesday.
Silli highlighted “the fundamental and historic contribution of Italian emigration to the socio-economic development of Florida and the US”.
During the visit, Silli took part in a meeting in Miami of the local Committee of Italians Abroad, held talks with the consular Corps, representatives of the 63,000-strong – and growing – local Italian-American community, teachers, and members of the armed forces, volunteer, religious and missionary groups.
Silli also toured a number of important production plants of Italian companies specialising in recreational boating, including those of the Ferretti Group and Genesis Interior, leading companies in the sector.
