(Adnkronos) – It is urgent, after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime, to ease and then lift the international sanctions imposed on Syria. This was stated by Volker Turk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, visiting Damascus.
“I call for an urgent reassessment of the sanctions with a view to lifting them,” he said during a press conference. The international community was then asked to “bear in mind the impact that sanctions are having on the lives of the Syrian people”.
