(Adnkronos) – The Russian authorities accuse Ukraine of having offered rewards of up to 1 million dollars (about 970,500 euros) to Russian soldiers deployed in the eastern province of Donetsk, so that they would abandon their positions. The complaint comes from the Kremlin’s Federal Security Service (Fsb), whose agents “stopped an operation” in Kiev that involved offering rewards to Russian soldiers to “abandon their positions in the city of Gorlovka”.
“The intentions of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense were quickly identified by the Fsb’s military counterintelligence services”, the agency said, adding that agents managed to receive around 97,050 euros from Kiev as a ‘down payment’. He also pointed out that “during the operational activities, areas of concentration of units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were located”, which allowed the Russian army “to carry out preventive attacks with missiles and artillery on the identified movement routes”.
“The enemy has suffered significant human and material losses”, the Fsb said, adding that the funds allegedly provided by Kiev “were used to purchase equipment and technical resources for the benefit of the units participating in the special military operation”.
