Alarm for Trump inauguration, ‘possible target for violent extremists’

15 Gennaio 2025

(Adnkronos) – US national security agencies are sounding the alarm for next Monday’s inauguration ceremony, stating that Donald Trump’s swearing-in has “the appeal of a potential target” for violent extremist groups. This is what we read in a confidential briefing, of which Politico has obtained a copy, which however states that there are no specific credible threats.

According to the note, groups or individuals with “grievances about the election results” might consider the president-elect’s swearing-in as “their last chance to influence the election through violence”. The alarm comes as a maximum security device is being prepared in Washington for the inauguration, with a total of 25,000 security officers and military personnel deployed, including 4,000 city police officers and 1,000 Capitol Police.

Even for Joe Biden’s inauguration, four years ago, there was a massive deployment of forces, given that a few months earlier there had been the assault on Congress. This year the alert is justified by the two assassination attempts that Trump escaped during the election campaign and by the recent attack in New Orleans and the explosion in Las Vegas.
