(Adnkronos) – The European Commission announces a new series of €148 million in humanitarian funding to support Ukraine against Russian aggression. The European executive announces this in a statement, explaining that €140 million destined for Ukraine will be allocated as a priority to vulnerable populations in the east and south of the country and will help provide food, shelter, drinking water, healthcare assistance and protection against the winter hardships.
The remaining €8 million has been allocated to humanitarian projects in Moldova. “Support will focus on assisting Ukrainian refugees and Moldovan host communities, prioritizing cash assistance, access to essential services such as healthcare and education, and psychosocial support”, the statement reads.
The new package brings the total humanitarian aid provided by the EU to €1.1 billion. Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality, Hadja Lahbib, is scheduled to visit Ukraine today. On the table is the strengthening of European efforts to provide critical assistance. The official is expected to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and senior Ukrainian officials.
