(Adnkronos) – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has said that Elon Musk, owner of X and ally of Donald Trump, “openly attacks our institutions” and “foments hatred”. Musk, who is expected to play a role in the administration of US President-elect Trump, has sparked anger across Europe with a series of attacks on the continent’s leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Speaking at the start of official commemorations for the 50th anniversary of the death of dictator Francisco Franco, Sanchez accused Musk of leading an “international reactionary” movement that “openly attacks our institutions, foments hatred and openly seeks the support of the heirs of Nazism in the upcoming elections in Germany”.
“All of this is a problem, a challenge, a challenge that should concern all of us who believe in democracy,” the Socialist premier added during the event at the Reina Sofia art museum in Madrid, which houses Pablo Picasso’s painting “Guernica”, one of the most famous anti-Franco works. Musk has offered strong support to the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of the snap elections on February 23 and on Thursday will host a discussion on X with party leader Alice Weidel. The billionaire has also called for the removal of Starmer and urged the release from prison of Tommy Robinson, one of Britain’s most notorious far-right agitators.
