Massive fires in Los Angeles, evacuation orders for 30,000 people

(Adnkronos) – A massive fire has forced thousands of people to evacuate the hills above Los Angeles, where violent winds are fueling the flames. The fire broke out late in the morning in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, in the mountains northwest of the city. It has already devastated almost 1,200 hectares. Authorities have identified “many structures already destroyed,” California Governor Gavin Newsom explained at a press conference last night.

According to authorities, approximately 30,000 people have been ordered to evacuate. No injuries have been reported at this time. Many residents fled in panic, with only a few belongings and their pets. More than 100,000 people are without power in Los Angeles County, according to poweroutage.us , a database that tracks and aggregates power outages in the United States in real-time.

Vice President Kamala Harris said: “My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected” by the wildfires in Southern California. “As a proud daughter of California — she added — I know the damage that wildfires have on our neighbors and our communities. I also know that the impact is often felt long after the fire has been contained. As we respond and as Californians recover, I will make sure that our administration is in constant contact with state and local officials”.
