(Adnkronos) – Italian major Eni’s non-carbon unit Plenitude has more than doubled its capacity from renewables in Spain since 2023- including solar and wind projects – due to “significant organic growth”, Eni said in a statement on Tuesday.
Plenitude has expanded its installed capacity from renewable sources in Spain by 400 MW, reaching almost 950 MW of photovoltaic and wind power projects – more than double compared with 2023, said the statement.
The recently installed 150 MW Caparacena project in Granada, southern Pain boasts three photovoltaic plants nearly accounting for 50 MW capacity each. The electricity connection to Spain’s national transmission grid is ensured by a newly completed 400 kV substation, as well as another 200 kV substation and line shared with other operators, according to the statement.
Plenitude has also finished building plants totalling nearly 250 MW in the solar parks of Renopool, in the western Extremadura region bordering Portugal and in Guillena, in the southern Andalusia region.
These operation helped Plenitude hit its target of 4GW of installed capacity globally last year and it aims to reach 8 GW of installed renewable capacity globally by 2027, said the statement.
“During 2024 Plenitude has registered significant organic growth in Spain with the completion of several renewable projects realised also thanks to the good relationships we have developed locally,” said Mariangiola Mollicone, head of Western Europe Renewables and Plenitude’s managing director in Spain.
“Spain is a strategic country for our company and we want to have a positive impact in the areas where we operate, not only economically, but also on the communities that host us,” Mollicone said.
Plenitude also has 820MW of new plants already under construction in Spain which are set to be completed this year and in 2026, as part of the company’s long-term strategy in the renewables business and in the country.
Plenitude operates in over 15 countries worldwide with a business model that integrates renewable energy production, the sale of energy and energy solutions to 10 million European customers, and an extensive network of nearly 22,000 charging points for electric vehicles.
