(Adnkronos) – ”I feel a strong desire among many Greenlanders to move towards independence”. This is a ”legitimate goal and therefore I think it is important that the future of Greenland be decided in Nuuk”. This is what Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said during an interview with the radio station DR Nyheder, inviting ”everyone, at home and abroad”, to respect the fact that ”Greenland is a country in its own right”.

On the day of Donald Trump Jr’s visit to the Arctic island, the Danish Prime Minister said that ”Greenland is a fantastic country, with its own people, language and culture”. And therefore, Frederiksen reiterated, ”I invite everyone, allies and partners abroad, but also politicians here at home, to respect the fact that we are in a new era and that any discussion on Greenland must begin and end in Nuuk and not in other places”.

Regarding relations with the United States, Frederiksen said ”I look forward to working with the new US administration. We have had excellent collaboration with the current one and I am sure we will have the same with the new one”.
