India: zero visibility due to fog in the north, over 100 flights and trains delayed

3 Gennaio 2025

(Adnkronos) – A thick fog is enveloping northern India, causing real chaos in the transport sector due to “zero” visibility, as defined by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). More than one hundred planes were unable to depart on time from New Delhi’s international airport, as well as dozens of trains delayed or rescheduled due to poor visibility in the area. This was reported by the Indian news agency PTI, while the Indian Meteorological Service announced that fog is also expected in the coming days.

According to the IMD, this morning about nine airports, including New Delhi, recorded zero visibility. The international airport in the Indian capital has warned passengers that disruptions may occur, especially for flights not compliant with the radar system that allows automatic landings in the event of very poor visibility. New Delhi airport handles around 1,300 flights a day.

New Delhi’s air quality was rated “very poor”. Humidity was recorded at 100 percent this morning.
