(Adnkronos) – Turkish authorities have announced that they have “neutralized” 14 suspected members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in a raid against northern Iraq. The Turkish Defense Ministry announced this in a post on X, specifying that the airstrikes were carried out against Hakurk, Gara and Metina.
“Our armed forces continue to wipe out terrorists with the strength they receive from our nation – reads – we are determined to eliminate terrorism at its source”. The Turkish army has carried out dozens of bombings against the PKK in Iraq, where the group has bases, especially in the Kandil area, since the ceasefire between the government and the armed group, considered a terrorist organization by Ankara, was broken in 2015 .
Turkish authorities, who have also launched several military operations against the Kurdish-Syrian People’s Protection Units (YPG) militias, linked to the PKK, have been supporting the offensive of several rebel groups against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria last December 8.
