(Adnkronos) – Last night’s snowfall caused significant disruption to roads and railways in various parts of Switzerland. The A1, the main east-west link in the Confederation, between Bern Brünnen and Mühleberg was closed, due to a vehicle across it, reports the Swiss Touring Club, among others. Even on the A3, which connects Basel to Sargans, in the Canton of St. Gallen, there were vehicles across the road that blocked traffic. The abundant presence of snow then made it necessary to close some cantonal roads in the Solothurn area as well.
Problems also occurred for the railways, with limited traffic to and from the St-Imier station, in the Bernese Jura, the SBB announced. Delays are therefore to be expected. The white blanket caused inconvenience particularly in the canton of Bern, where there were about forty accidents. In most cases only material damage was reported, a cantonal police spokesman told Keystone-Ats. In the city of Bern, several bus lines were temporarily interrupted and service resumed only around 9 am, between delays and cancellations. Trams were able to operate normally.
