(Adnkronos) – Although Ukraine and invader Russia have not yet reached a ceasefire, Italys foreign minister Antonio Tajani is ‘cautiously optimistic” that the almost three-year-old war could end in 2025.
“I am optimistic but cautious. We have not yet reached a ceasefire, but there have been steps forward,” Tajani told the private Rete 4 TV channel.
Tajani said it would be “premature” to comment on a possible military contingent in Ukraine to ensure security following an eventual ceasefire, an idea backed by France’s president Emmanuel Macron and Italy’s defence minister Guido Crosetto.
“Debate about a peacekeeping force in Ukraine and Italy’s role in such a force is premature,” Tajani said.
“First we need to reach a ceasefire – unfortunately the war is not over yet,” he underlined.
