(Adnkronos) – Nine weeks before the early vote in Germany, the Social Democratic Chancellor Olaf Scholz appears to be on the rise in the polls, so much so that he almost equals his rival Friedrich Merz, candidate for chancellor for the CDU/CSU conservative bloc. According to the ZDF survey, when asked who they would prefer as chancellor, 44% of the sample answered Merz, 43% Scholz. 13% “don’t know”.
If we compare the 4 candidates – Merz, Scholz, Robert Habeck (Greens) and Alice Weidel (AfD) – Merz gets the best results, with 29%, followed by the Green Habeck at 25%, then Scholz at 16%, like Weidel.
Looking at the parties, if the federal elections were held on Sunday, according to the poll, the CDU/CSU would come out on top with 31%, followed by the AfD with 19%, the SPD with 15% and the Greens with 14%.
The Liberal Party (FDP) could remain out of Parliament, with 3%, below the minimum threshold of 5%, as could the Left Party with 4%. The populist Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance party (BSW), founded in February, would stand at 5%.
