(Adnkronos) – The provisional toll of the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that struck the Vanuatu archipelago in the Pacific in recent hours, followed by other strong shocks, is at least 14 dead and over 200 injured. Damage to various buildings was reported, including the embassies of the United States, France, the United Kingdom and New Zealand, according to the BBC. Mobile telephony and Internet connection are intermittent. A state of emergency will be in effect for a week to limit travel and facilitate rescue efforts, while searches continue for people who may have been trapped in the rubble. Among the 14 victims are two Chinese citizens.
