Govt wants to help Italian firms internationalise amid volatile geopolitical scenario says Tajani

(Adnkronos) – The government vows to help Italy’s companies grow their international business and reach new markets within a constantly changing geopolitical context, aided by economic diplomacy, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Wednesday.

“We want to support our companies in their internationalisation process, helping them to operate in a geopolitical context that is constantly changing and in which Italy’s economy must address the major challenges of the global economy in a coordinated way,” he said.

Tajani was addressing an annual national conference on Italian exports and the internationalisation of Italian companies being held on Wednesday at Milan’s private Bocconi University.

“I strongly desired this year’s conference to be held in Milan – one of the country’s most important economic hubs – to boost the dialogue between our diplomatic network and representatives of companies, trade associations, and public export support agencies,” Tajani said.

Given the “large number” of conference participants and over 700 scheduled meetings between ambassadors and business representatives there to explore new opportunities for entering foreign markets, the conference is a key opportunity to strengthen support for Italian companies that want to expand their global presence, said Tajani.

“This action will continue in the coming weeks through more meetings (also online) between embassies and companies (over 1,800 have already been scheduled – aimed at exploring the prospects for the development of companies’ activities in their respective markets.

Italy’s deputy industry minister Valentino Valentini, the Bocconi University’s rector Francesco Billari; Italy main private business lobby Confindustria president Emanuele Orsini; the Italian Banking Association (ABI)’s president Antonio Patuelli and the heads of numerous Italian trade associations and large industrial groups are attending Wednesday’s conference.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed during the conference between the foreign minsitry, Italy’s trade agency (ITA) and the Italian stock-exchange to help Italian companies grow, according the a foreign ministry statement.

The MoU’s inking will be followed by a cooperation agreement between the foreign ministry and the Bracco Foundation for the promotion of Italian language and science in Italian schools abroad, the statement added.

The Conference will close with a session focusing on the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, which offer an exceptional opportunity to enhance Italian know-how in the sports sector, the statement said.
