16 Dicembre 2024

(Adnkronos) – Massacre from ‘killer’ liquor in Istanbul. Authorities have confirmed that in six weeks more than 35 people have died after drinking adulterated alcohol in the city on the Bosphorus. Another 40 people were hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning, 23 of whom have already been discharged. On X, the Istanbul governor’s office specifies that so far there have been 37 confirmed deaths. The authorities speak of 14 arrests, of searches by security forces in more than a thousand places in the city, with the seizure of 14,700 bottles.

The “inspections will continue unabated”, they assure. In Turkey, taxes drive up the prices of alcoholic beverages and this would be at the origin of illegal production.
