Canada, deputy premier and finance minister resigns, ‘disagreement with Trudeau on Trump tariffs’

16 Dicembre 2024

(Adnkronos) – Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned today from Justin Trudeau’s government. She announced it herself today by publishing on social media the letter of her resignation in which she reveals that on Friday the premier told her “that he no longer wanted me to serve as finance minister, offering me another position in government”.

“After reflecting, I have concluded that the only honest and feasible course for me is to resign,” the letter continues, revealing that there are disagreements with Trudeau on how to deal with “the serious challenge” posed by the “policy of aggressive economic nationalism, with the threat of 25% tariffs” that Donald Trump intends to adopt. “In recent weeks, we have not agreed on the best way forward for Canada,” Freeland also writes in the letter to Trudeau.
