(Adnkronos) – At the indication of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Venezuelan Embassy in Rome was summoned to the Farnesina today. The meeting intended to reiterate the need to guarantee consular assistance and access to Italian detainees in Venezuela, subjected to arrest or detention for political reasons, also following the elections last July. The request for the release of all political prisoners was also reiterated during the meeting.
During the meeting, the Farnesina reports in a note, the Italian Government’s position on the situation in Venezuela was reiterated, already reflected in the declaration of the G7 Foreign Ministers in Fiuggi on 26 November 2024. Italy will continue to support the efforts of regional partners to facilitate a democratic and peaceful transition that corresponds to the will of the Venezuelan people as expressed in the elections of 28 July.
The Farnesina, the Embassy in Caracas and the Italian consular network in Venezuela are engaged in action to protect and assist the community of Italians and people of Italian descent residing in the country, also through a permanent “task force” specifically set up at the behest of Minister Tajani.
