Syria, Austria offers 1,000 euro ‘bonus’ to refugees who decide to return

(Adnkronos) – Austria is offering a “return bonus” of 1,000 euros for all Syrian refugees who decide to return to their country after the fall of the Bashar Assad regime. “Austria will support Syrians who want to go back,” Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said on X. Syria “now needs its citizens to rebuild.” “Asylum procedures for Syrian citizens in Austria continue to be suspended,” he added, after Interior Minister Gerhard Karner presented to the National Council, the lower house of parliament, an “orderly return and repatriation program” for Syrian citizens. 

“There will be no immediate mass repatriations as some imagined, but neither will we limit ourselves to ‘drinking tea and waiting’,” he had said. In addition to Austria, several European countries have announced in recent days the decision to suspend the examination of asylum applications from Syrians,
